Gangdong-gu, treating exhausted minds of young workers

- Provided at free-of-charge to 22 vulnerable young workers, who are exposed to poor working conditions

- A therapy program to help them recover mental health by alleviating the negative effects of emotional labor and stress

Gangdong-gu (Head Lee Su-hee) has opened a “Therapy Program for Young Workers” on the 29th to support vulnerable young workers who are suffering from financial and emotional stresses due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Targeting 22 vulnerable young workers who are exposed to poor working conditions, this program offers an opportunity to return to the normal routine by providing an aromatherapy-based healing program.

In particular, it is expected to provide a substantial help for mental stability of insecure young people who are working under the poor conditions, using natural aromas known to be effective for boosting focus, respiratory health, improving insomnia and reducing stress.

Gangdong-gu Labor Rights Center has offered free therapy programs on various topics and using diverse materials since 2019 to help mental health recovery of vulnerable young workers who are suffering from the effects of emotional labor and stress.

An official from Gangdong-gu said, “We will spare no effort to support mental health recovery of vulnerable young workers who are suffering from mental health problems by offering therapy programs in various forms.”

Gangdong-gu plans to develop more innovative programs in consideration of the participants’ various opinions and suggestions while mitigating psychological burden and bias associated with therapy by creating a mental health kit and a mental health guide containing information on emotional labor, symptoms of stress and self-care to relieve stress using participants database
