Gangdong-gu Takes the Lead in Reducing Use of Disposable Items!$-Gangdong-gu preferentially purchases recycled goods and installs umbrella rainwater removers to reduce use of disposable items-Stops unnecessary use of resources, anticipating creation of clean urban environment

Gangdong-gu (mayor Lee Jung-hun) will take the lead in ‘reducing the use of disposable items’ to create a clean urban environment and to stop the unnecessary consumption of resources.

‘Reducing the use of disposable items’ is part of the comprehensive measures for recycled waste that the government established after the apartment complex recycling chaos, and public institutions such as Gangdong-gu, the city management corporation, police stations, fire stations, and schools have shown their active participation.

‘Reducing the use of disposable items’ includes a complete ban on the use of disposable cups and plastic bottles in the office, encourages use of personal cups and tumblers, the use of multi-use cups for visitors, and large beverage and drinking fountains at various meetings and events.

When purchasing office supplies (printing paper, etc.), Gangdong-gu will purchase recycled goods and use reusable paper. The administration will also install umbrella rainwater removers instead of providing disposable plastic umbrella covers in order to reduce plastic waste, and will actively promote the use of reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun commented, “We will actively take the lead as a public institution to reduce the use of disposable items for development of a nature-friendly living culture in the community.”
