Gangdong-gu is running a roundtable discussion on Tuesday, February 7th at 1:30 pm under the topic, ‘The Gangdong-gu Youth Policies I want.’ There will be about 80 participants including young entrepreneurs who work in Gangdong-gu, members of youth policy networks, college students, and government employees to discuss youth problems and solutions at the roundtable held at an auditorium of Gangdong-gu office.

In particular, 60 college students who worked part-time during their winter break this year will play a leading role in the discussion to suggest original and realistic ideas for youth policies.

Gangdong-gu established a youth policy team last May to solve youth problems and enacted ‘an ordinance for promotion of youth employment.’ The office is actively utilizing local resources to implement youth policies that create jobs and revitalize the local community.

Major youth policies of Gangdong-gu introduced ‘Angel Workshop’ on a street filled with illegally operated cafés, ‘Youth Night Market’ and ‘Youth Market’ that used an empty spot of a traditional market, a social gathering place, ‘Youth Maru,’ and a tailored public rental home for young entrepreneurs, ‘Dojeonsook.’

Participants of the roundtable will have discussions on four different categories including areas to work (employment, start-ups), areas to live (residential areas), areas to stand (social participation), and areas to play (activities). Each person will suggest more than one policy using post-it notes to select the most brilliant idea and share it with the entire group.

Gangdong-gu plans to take this opportunity to have a frank discussion and seek solutions for some of the youth problems including unemployment, residential problems, and poverty with young people to consistently push forward with projects that are imperative for youth.
