Subject Special Lecture on Climate Crisis and 2050 Carbon Neutrality in Gangdong-gu, Korea

Gangdong-gu, Seoul, announced that it will hold the 27th Environment Day Celebration Event at 14:00 on June 3 (Fri) at the auditorium on the 5th floor of Gangdong-gu Office to mark the 27th Environment Day (June 5).

At the event, Dr. Lee Yoo-jin, a climate environment expert (deputy director of the Green Transition Research Institute), will give a special lecture on the theme of Climate Crisis and 2050 carbon neutrality for residents interested in the environment. Through this special lecture, we will find out what preparations we should make for carbon neutrality in 2050.

Earlier, Gangdong-gu held the 2022 Environmental Work Contest for elementary and middle school students in Gangdong-gu and selected 35 works out of a total of 350 entries as winners.

The selected works will be displayed at the Gangdong-gu Office Auditorium from 13:00 to 16:00 on June 3, and visitors can see the environmental problems that students, who are the main players of the future generation, think importantly.

In addition, the award-winning works will be displayed at the Cheonho Underpass Culture Gallery from June 7 to 26, providing opportunities for many residents to think about the environment.

An official from Gangdong-gu said, "I hope it will be a good opportunity to think about the importance of the environment through lectures on the climate crisis and carbon neutrality held in commemoration of Environment Day and appreciation of the works selected in the contest."


Dr. Lee Yoo-jin is an environmental activist who is conducting research and activities on the theme of responding to the climate crisis and energy conversion based on the region. He is co-representative of GUSSWO's "Regional Energy Transition National Network" and general policy advisor for Green New Deal in Gwangju Metropolitan City. As a member of the President's Carbon Neutrality Committee, he participated in the 2050 carbon neutrality scenario and the establishment of greenhouse gas reduction goals in 2030. He served as the Prime Minister's Special Assistant to the Green New Deal and a non-executive director of the Seoul Energy Corporation.
