Gangdong-gu Office (head: Lee Soo-hee) is planning to hold the New Year’s greetings event on Jan. 4, celebrating the Year of the Rabbit 2023. The event will take place at 3 PM in the grand theater of the Gangdong Arts Center.

With an aim to share with residents the future, vision, and new changes of the district, Gangdong-gu Office has invited several residents contributed in advancing the office’s administrative affairs with great interest. In particular, the office also invited residents whose birth date falls on the Year of the Rabbit and social career just got started – e.g. school freshmen, newly-hired young workers, and founders of start-ups.

As a special session of the event, a particular area at the center will be arranged to display written new year messages of hope in the form of three-line acrostic poem that have been collected in advance. After the event, those messages are slated to be relocated at the office building in order to share with more residents. The office is set to study such messages of hope in detail and seek ways to reflect on its district affairs.

The lobby of the center will be organized as a reception area welcoming residents and guests. Prior to a main session, which will begin at 2:40 PM, a fusion Korean classic musical band called ‘Ensemble IF’ will perform to elate the mood. Introduction of distinguished guests and a video recording of new year greetings are set to follow.

There will be an award ceremony for residents acknowledged for their service in developing the district in each of different category. The recipients are as follows: Service Group of Retirees and Park Rae-cheol in the category of social development and volunteer work, Kwon Oh-young in the category of environment, Jeon Gil-yong in the category of filial conduct and good deed, Yang Jae-gon in the category of Culture and Sports; CESCO Co. in the category of economic development, and Gangdong Night School in the category of education.

Followed by the award ceremony, a video film entitled ‘Transforming Gangdong with Inspiration’ is scheduled to be shown. After the film, the office head Lee Soo-hee will deliver a New Year address, sharing direction for development and hope of the district under the theme of ‘Striving to Change, Proud of Gangdong.’

“I wish all residents of Gangdong-gu cherish abundant life and be full of hope in the new year,” Lee said. “I also urge all residents to come together to realize powerful changes of Gangdong-gu that is set to take a great leap in the Year of the Rabbit.”
