Gangdong-gu launching a campaign to recruit Honorary Social Welfare Public Officials for all its dongs

- Recruiting neighbors who will “find and help those left behind in the welfare system”

Gangdong-gu (Head Lee Soo-hee) will launch a “campaign to recruit Honorary Social Welfare Public Officials” to attract residents’ interest in finding and supporting vulnerable families before the hottest days of the summer arrive.

“Honorary Social Welfare Public Officials” refer to unpaid, honorary local volunteers who seek to provide assistance in checking on and caring neighbors. Currently, there are 864 honorary social welfare public officials across 18 dongs in Gangdong-gu. They consist of local residents who are familiar with the neighbor, including life-friendly business owners, village head and resident autonomy committee members.

To strengthen the welfare network, Gangdong-gu is undertaking a “campaign to recruit honorary social welfare public officials” in a total 18 dongs of Gangdong-gu until the end of July. Led by the members of Community Social Security Council and Community Centers, it asks for people's cooperation in finding and reporting those in need of welfare service assistance at all times by visiting life-friendly businesses, including convenience stores, real estate and pharmacy. Local residents who wish to serve as honorary social welfare public officials may apply to the community center where they reside or operate business in.

An official from the district office commented, “We will strengthen the all-time identification, support and monitoring system for families in crisis through a welfare community centering around the local residents, including honorary social welfare public officials, neighbor care group and senior care group.”
