For the first time in the nation, Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung hun) will provide two-thirds of the cost for personal purchases (30%) of devices for type 1 diabetes patients.

  Type 1 diabetes is a condition that disables insulin secretion from the pancreas and is common among children, unlike type 2 diabetes that is common to adults. Type 1 diabetes requires injecting insulin. The difficulty of directly injecting insulin shots and purchasing expensive diabetes devices may be considered as obstructive factors when treating diabetes.

  Gangdong-gu will support type 1 diabetes patients with costs for ▲automatic insulin injectors, ▲continuous glucose monitors, and ▲glucose monitoring sensors for the first time in the nation to reduce the financial burden of patients and contribute to improving treatments of type 1 diabetes.

  Recipients of this support are type 1 diabetes patients among Gangdong-gu residents who purchased diabetes devices (automatic insulin injectors, continuous glucose monitors, and glucose monitoring sensors) in 2021. Applications to receive this support is currently in progress, and the support will be given on a first come, first served basis until the budget for 2021 is exhausted. 

  To apply, applicants must submit a ▲diagnosis or referral, ▲prescription for a diabetes device, ▲identification, ▲copy of resident registration, ▲receipt of purchase, and ▲copy of a bankbook to the Community Health Center Medical Treatment Support Office (☎02-3425-6813).

  An official of the Gangdong-gu Community Health Center commented, “We hope that the financial support for type 1 diabetes devices will be good news to families of type 1 diabetes patients who require treatment at a young age. We will continue to work hard to improve the quality of life and health of Gangdong-gu residents.”
