Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) revealed its plans to conduct a project for colorful cultural activities for seniors by designating the year 2021 as the "Year of Revitalization for Elders."

 In order to promote the leisure welfare of elders and encourage local participation, the district supports the project for the participation of seniors in cultural activities with the Gangdong-gu Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association and Holy Family Senior Welfare Center. This year, the district will provide support in the form of KRW 11 million, which is an 11% increase compared to last year, to actively encourage the participation in cultural activities by seniors. 

 The Gangdong-gu Branch of the Korean Senior Citizens Association will provide cultural activities and offer educational support focusing on senior centers while the Holy Family Senior Welfare Center will operate programs that promote the programs for the hobbies and leisure activities of seniors, such as classes on the Korean alphabet, Chinese character calligraphy, and Korean painting.

 Furthermore, the "Visiting Tuesday Stage" will be presented as a part of the new 2021 "Project for the Cultural Enjoyment of Elders." The "Visiting Tuesday Stage" is a small-scale cultural concert held at nearby venues for seniors who cannot easily go outside or enjoy cultural, leisurely activities.

 The concerts will be held in neighborhood parks that can be easily visited by elders. In the case that concerts cannot be held due to raised COVID-19 social distancing levels, the program will offer seniors Cultural Enjoyment Kits, which consist of "toys" for the prevention of dementia and trot music CDs.
