05-10-2020

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) was awarded the Minister’s Award in the “Public Disclosure System category” for the fourth consecutive year and was the first district in Seoul to receive the Minister’s Award in the “Excellent Project category” at the “2020 National Local Government Job Awards,” acquiring KRW 90 million in financial incentives.

The “National Local Government Job Awards” is an award that can be received by 243 local governments from the Ministry of Employment and Labor after a comprehensive evaluation of the creation of jobs through public disclosure and goals for creating jobs that were made during the head of a local government’s term in office.

At this evaluation, Gangdong-gu was recognized for its efforts and sincerity in improving the quality of labor through the “Labor Rights Center and Migratory Worker Support Center” that is being operated for the first time in the nation. Gangdong-gu received an excellent evaluation for its promotion of creative, customized employment projects in consideration of the district’s features, such as the creation of jobs through the Angel Workshop, fostering of talented individuals for dental clinics, and the employment and startup support project for leather fashion.

Gangdong-gu was highly evaluated for its efforts for self-sufficient construction in Gangdong that realizes the virtuous cycle of development and distribution while straying from the bed town-type city. This is expected to be actualized through Godeok Biz Valley, the formation of the Gangdong Industrial Complex, and the revitalization of the Advanced Business Complex.

Gangdong-gu was the only district in the Seoul metropolitan area to be awarded the Minister’s Award in the “Startup of Leather Fashion Cooperative” and “Excellent Project.” The “Startup of Leather Fashion Cooperative,” a part of the employment project suitable for local industries managed by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, is a project that fosters talented individuals in the leather fashion industry while creating jobs as a reflection of Gangdong-gu’s local features, as 30% of Seoul’s leather industry is located in Gangdong-gu.

Gangdong-gu cooperated with the Seoul Dongbu Women’s Development Center to foster professionals in the leather fashion industry and specialized leather designs to foster entrepreneurs in related fields. This is Gangdong-gu’s way of creating jobs where both a foundation for the leather fashion industry is formed and sustained and high-value jobs are also created.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun commented, “We will work harder to promote job policies that can embrace various classes based on a public-private network, which consist of enterprises, workers, and related organizations, for promoting job-related projects. We will also work to improve the respected value of work and job qualities.”
