The Gangdong-gu Pre-Historic Culture Festival, Gangdong-gu's premier fair, was awarded in the Pinnacle Awards, which are often called the Olympics of festivals.

The Pre-Historic Culture Festival was recognized in the special program and print ads categories in the Korea competition of the 2019 Pinnacle Awards held in the Western Life Hotel in Iksan, Jeollabuk-do Province, on July 18. In particular, the "Korean Peninsula Primitive Exploration Street Parade" and the publicity poster shaped as comb-pattern pottery, the festival's highlights, were recognized for their uniqueness and competitiveness.

The Pinnacle Awards are the authoritative prizes selected and given to excellent festivals around the world every year by IFEA World. With its triumph in the Korea competition, the Pre-Historical Culture Festival qualified to the world competition of the Pinnacle Awards and can compete for the Pinnacle Awards for six years in a row.

The Gangdong Pre-Historic Culture Festival, which marks its 24th anniversary this year, boasts its marked historicity and identity because it is the only festival in Seoul themed with the Neolithic culture. The festival is the biggest local fair, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and has exceeded domestic boundaries, becoming Korea's premier festivity recognized across the world thanks to its winning of the Pinnacle Awards every year since 2014.

"This year's prizes are invaluable results achieved together by the residents. We will actively push to list our festival as UNESCO World Heritage so that it can solidify its position as a festivity enabling people to relish the Neolithic period and culture, and making the Amsa-dong ruins be known widely for their global value and excellence," Mayor Lee Jung-hun said.

The 24th Pre-Historical Culture Festival is to take place at the Amsa-dong historic site in Seoul Oct. 11-13.
