Responsive to the online issuance of English disability certificates that was launched last month, Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) is promoting the service to its residents.

 The disability certificate in English can be used by the disabled to receive advantages during an immigration inspection or other benefits like discounts and priority in a foreign country.

 Previously, disability certificates in Korean could be issued online but to have one in English issued, the disabled person or one of their family members had to visit the neighborhood community service center. Furthermore, if lost in a foreign country, it could not be re-issued overseas.

 Thus, the government repaired the related system and started the issuance of English disability certificates starting on April 19 on Government 24 (www.gov.kr), the portal site for comprehensive administrative services.

 To issue the disability certificate in English, you should access the website, sign in with your digital certificate, search for the certificate using the search box, fill in your English name and English address then submit your application.

 With the launching of the online English disability certificate issuance service, Gangdong-gu will promote its use among the disabled who visit the divisions of the Gangdong-gu Office and the community service centers. Plus, it will provide related information using its promotion channels, including the newsletter and SNS.

 Gangdong-gu Mayor Lee Jung-hun said, “We will do our best to ensure easy access to  information for local residents, including the underprivileged, through the improvement of public administrative services.”
