Supporting Abandoned Animal Adoption Costs $-Gangdong-gu Supports up to KRW 100,000 per Animal for a Total of 150 Animals-For People who Adopt an Abandoned Animal from a Local Animal Shelter-- Supporting 50 Percent of the Cost for Disease Diagnosis, Treatment, Vaccination, Neutering or Spaying Operations, Etc

03-05-2019

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) are supporting, starting from May, the cost of adoption for abandoned dogs from local animal shelters in order to increase the rate at which abandoned animals are adopted and enhance the level of protections they receive.

This project is being carried out for the purpose of increasing the adoption rate of stray dogs and decreasing the burdens of adoption costs, like medical expenses for example. If the cost is over KRW 200,000, Gangdong-gu will offer financial support up to KRW 100,000 and if the total cost is less than KRW 200,000, Gangdong-gu will offer support up to 50% of the cost. The measure is retroactive for the six months prior to May 1, 2019, meaning that people who adopted strays as early as November 1, 2018 can receive support.

A legitimate beneficiary is a person who has adopted an abandoned animal from one of the animal shelters as designated by Gangdong-gu (GD Animal Clinic, Dunchon Animal Clinic) or Re:born Center, has been issued a certificate of adoption from the center, and has had the adopted animal treated at an animal clinic. Relevant costs: disease diagnosis kit, treatment, vaccination, neutering or spaying operation, embedded animal registration, and beauty treatments.

To apply for the financial support, you should submit relevant bills and invoices to adoption support, which you can download on the website of Re:born Center (www.reborncenter.org) or pick up at the Social Economy Division of Gangdong-gu Office.

The mayor of Gangdong-gu Office, Lee Jung-hun stated, “We want to tackle the issue of lost and abandoned animals through this adoption costs support project by lessening the economic burden of adopting. We will continue striving to promote the adoption of stray animals and to create an atmosphere suitable for raising our furry companions.”

Gangdong-gu is a national pioneer in the relatively new field of administration called “animal welfare” and is now searching for the right ways to address the issue of abandoned animals. Opened in November 2017, the Re:born Center in Gangdong-gu is the nation’s first abandoned animals’ adoption cafe. Thanks to this center, a total of 112 abandoned animals have found new families to live with.
