Gangdong-gu applied for the 2019 Special Project to Reduce Particulate Matter launched by the SMG, passed the first and the second screening to become the beneficiary, and thus will receive a subsidy of KRW 2.50 million. Seven districts, including Gangdong-gu, were chosen to execute the project.

Gangdong-gu was selected for the project to implement photocatalytic, atmosphere purification pavers that reduce particulate matter in order to ameliorate the sidewalk environment by focusing on the diminution of particulate generated from vehicle gas. The pavers will be established along Yangjae-daero 1517-1535, Gangdong-gu.

Furthermore, Gangdong-gu was selected to implement the Project for the Promotion of Energy Efficiency in Facilities used by the Elderly and Children that will receive support in the form of KRW 1.5 million.

The budget is planned to be used to for various energy efficiency promotion projects, including the improvement of the deteriorated facilities used by the elderly and children in which old light fixtures will be replaced with LED lights and old windows, screens, and doors will be replaced with new ones. Additionally, cool roofs (painting the roof with a white, cooling paint to block the heat and reflect the sunshine) will be installed in such facilities.

The Mayor of Gandong-gu, Lee Jung-hun, stated, “Gangdong-gu will implement the projects smoothly, constructing a clean sidewalk environment that will hopefully be well received by local residents and offer the surrounding areas with high energy efficiency.
