A Smart Way to Maintain Good Health with a Mobile Application$-Gangdong-gu Public Health Center recruits 100 individuals to participate in Mobile Healthcare Project-Individualized healthcare and support for metabolic syndrome care in a“Smart Era”

15-03-2019

Gangdong-gu (Mayor, Lee Jung-hun) implements a mobile healthcare project that provides individualized healthcare via a mobile application to residents with chronic disease risk factors.

The Gangdong-gu Public Health Center's Mobile Healthcare Project is a program that enables individual residents to communicate with the center's healthcare team (doctors, coordinators, nurses, dieticians, and exercise specialists) and manage their health through the use of a wristband-type activity meter that is linked to a mobile app and smart phones.

Individuals that are eligible to participate include adults in their 30’s to 50’s who are currently living or working in Gangdong-gu and have at least one health risk factor (blood pressure, blood sugar, waistline, triglyceride level, HDL, or cholesterol). However, those already diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia and those taking medicine for these diseases are excluded from selection. The Public Health Center will recruit 100 participants on a first-come, first-served basis in March.

The selected participants will visit the health center, receive counseling and preemptive health screening, and regularly check their health statuses and lifestyles through the mobile healthcare app. During the six-month long project period, free health measurements will be conducted every three months for the improvement of health statuses. Based on the analysis of these measurements, the participants will be provided with a proper health care plan.

In addition, health-related information is provided on a weekly basis, along with monthly health management practice reports and counseling from experts from various fields. All these services are delivered through the mobile app, so participants can manage their health in an easier and smarter way.

A total of 104 people participated in the Mobile Healthcare Project that launched last year. According to a survey conducted by Gangdong-gu, participants demonstrated a high level of satisfaction with the program (4.03 out of 5.0 points).

Mayor of Gangdong-gu (district of Gangdong-gu) Lee Jung-hun said, "We expect to reduce the prevalence of chronic diseases in the community by providing preventive healthcare services for local residents based on a mobile app in this Smart Era."
