Gangdong-gu leads age of 4th Industrial Revolution with emphasis on coding education for ICT jobs$-‘Business agreement’ signed on Nov. 19 to help nurture talent-Makerspace created; coding and software eduction strengthened; job creation eyed |

In an effort to prepare for the age of the Fourth Industrial Revolution proactively, Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, is going all-out to join hands with local communities to nurture competitive talent and create jobs for young people. To this end, the Office signed business agreements on a project to foster talented people for the Fourth Industrial Revolution with SonLab Soft, Korea Productivity Center, Devgear, and Korea Vocational Training Institute. These agreements are designed to meet the government’s goal of creating 260,000 jobs in science and technology and information and communications technology (ICT) and prepare for the compulsory coding education in accordance with curriculum changes. Under these agreements, such programs as virtual reality (VR), Internet of Things (IoT), and 3D printing through which young people can learn and experience the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies will be in operation. Also, a customized education project will be pushed to foster youths and women with career break as lecturers and developers. In addition, the agreements include strengthening coding and software education for young people and preparing residents for newly created state technical certificates in accordance with “changes in the state technical license system for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.” “We will help residents cope with changes of future without difficulty by nurturing creative and convergent talent and trying to explore quality jobs,” said Mayor Lee Jung-hun. In connection with this, Gangdong-gu Office plans to build a “makerspace,” a collaborative work space where young people can learn next-generation technologies to put their startup ideas into practice, inside the Gangdong Job Experience Center by year’s end. <Related Photos>
