Mayor shows strong will towards resumption of Amsa Green Road project$-Gangdong-gu Office to link Seoul Amsa-dong remains with Han River with the resumption of Amsa Green Road project-Task force formed and feasibility study will be carried out

Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, is gearing up to resume the Amsa Green Road project linking Seoul Amsa-dong remains with the Hangang River.

The project is intended to enhance residents’ accessibility and restore the historicity of Seoul Amsa-dong remains, the largest-ever among the ruins of the Neolithic Age, by linking them with the Hangang River with green space which are split by the Grand Olympic Bridge.

The Hangang River Headquarters of the SMG began the Amsa Green Road project in March 2011 but suspended the project owing to the relocation of the wide waterwork system, congestions in Olympic Highway, and the insufficient economic feasibility.

Gangdong-gu officials believe that it is the best time to resume the project as the residents’ sympathy for pushing the Seoul Amsa-dong remains to be the UNESCO World Heritage site has been revived, and plan to strongly ask Seoul City to promote the Amsa Green Road project once again.

To this end, a task force, headed by the deputy mayor, was formed by seven departments in October. This is designed to secure foundation for the project resumption by actively informing Seoul City of its justifications and necessity and implement the project systematically and gradually by initiating a feasibility study for the Amsa Green Road project, reflecting environmental factors near the remains.

The Office will do its utmost to raise residents’ awareness and sympathy for the Amsa Green Road through various promotional activities such as briefings and regular forums, operation of sympathy programs linked to Gangdong prehistoric culture festivals and Seoul Amsa-dong remains, newsletters, and social media.

“What matters most to the resumption of the Amsa Green Road project, a campaign pledge of the 7th popular election, is inhabitants’ support and participation. I humbly ask residents to show more interest and support for the road, which would reinforce the historicity and identity of the Seoul Amsa-dong remains and become Seoul’s attraction where history, ecology, and leisure coexist by linking the Amsa Ecology Park, Amsa History Park, Godeok ecological waterways and Seoul trail,” said Mayor Lee Jung-hun.
