Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, will operate the ‘Gardening Playground’ for parents and children to take part in together at the Gangdong Parenting Nuri Library (2nd floor of Gangdong Community Center) during the autumn season. Applications for participation will be accepted starting November 1 (Thurs.) on a first come, first served basis.

The Gardening Playground is a program that offers a creative play environment through succulents, trees, pine cones and other natural materials. Touching and taking care of green plants will contribute to infants’ development of the five senses as well as emotional stability. The program will also help create positive attachment and strengthen ties through interaction with parents.

There will be various activities including plant friend, mini garden and happy doorplate making, and in December, the whole family can decorate Christmas trees and make candlesticks with real flowers while making New Year’s resolutions to increase closeness between family members.

Programs will be operated for parents and children between ages 4–7, divided into two groups consisting of children ages 4–5 and ages 6–7. The programs will be held every Monday from 3 p.m.–4 p.m. and 4 p.m.–5 p.m. from November 12 (Mon.) to December 31 (Mon.).

Applications will be available through the Gangdong Children Center website (www.gdkids.or.kr) on a first come, first served basis, and experience fees (material costs) must be paid separately. For more information, contact the Gangdong-gu Office Women Family Division Gangdong Parenting Nuri Library (☎02-487-3517).

The Gangdong Parenting Nuri Library that first opened in 2012 is a children’s library that offers information on childbirth and parenting while allowing you to spend time with children. Visitors can borrow books and utilize the childcare specialized space where childcare consultations are available. The library also offers a toy library with toys for children available to borrow.
