Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, is taking initiative in the inspection of health products and food sales businesses with a possible increase in sales in honor of the Chuseok holiday, as well as conducting a crackdown on false and exaggerated food advertisements targeted at vulnerable groups.

Gangdong-gu will target health product sales businesses in the district for special inspection of product management, product identification, and business compliance, with private and public groups and consumer food sanitation supervisors.

The senior inspectors work year-round to expose acts of false and exaggerated food advertisements that target elders and vulnerable groups resulting in an increasing number of loss and damages. The four senior inspectors visit senior citizen centers and the Tteotdabang (PR Hall) in Gangdong-gu to investigate acts of false and exaggerated advertisements and educate and publicize elders until this upcoming December.

Gangdong-gu is in the process of filing administrative suits against 32 shops with violations and discontinuance without notice, and five health products were seized for safety inspection at the Seoul Research Institute of Public Health and Environment.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun expressed, “We hope to create a healthy food distribution environment through year-round inspection, education, and publicity through senior inspectors and health food shop and business inspections. Gangdong-gu will continue to funnel effort toward the creation of safe foods for residents.”
