Gangdong-gu, headed by Mayor Lee Jung-hun, commenced the Kakao Gangdong-gu Kakao Notification Service on September 7 to inform users of the state of civil complaints and administrative news through the smartphone app, KakaoTalk.

The ‘Kakao Notification Service can be used to send messages to users who are not KakaoTalk friends with message contents limited to the template approved in advance by KakaoTalk.

Gangdong-gu plans to start other notification services in various fields, such as education, application notifications, online reservation notifications, and more, in addition to the start of the service that provides Kakao notifications of the current state and results of civil complaints notified through the website.

With the inability to clearly know where a text message originated from, many messages get filed away as junk messaging.

However, the Gangdong-gu Kakao Notification Service uses the Gangdong-gu logo as the account profile picture to ensure users of where that the message is originating from while offering reliable information.

The use of the service will reduce annual fees of text messages by 20%, resulting in economic benefits as well.

Gangdong-gu will continue to provide the text message service for residents using neither a smartphone nor the KakaoTalk service.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun commented, “We anticipate that this new notification service will provide a more solid platform of communication with the residents and also serve as a reliable administrative service.”
