Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will plan a medium- and long-term policy suitable for Gangdong-gu’s special characteristics to actualize a happy community centered on its residents to establish the ‘Fourth plan for securement of local community.’

The ‘Fourth plan for securement of local community’ is a comprehensive plan that the district will push forward with from 2019-2022, which diagnoses points of improvement and results of the third plan and reorganize Gangdong-gu’s very own specialized projects on the foundation of welfare resources and local research reflecting on the demands of its residents.

In order to establish its substantial plans, Gangdong-gu will turn to academic services of special academic institutions until this September to survey and analyze the welfare needs and local resources in the district.

Using the results of the survey, the district will prepare a policy after deliberation with a task force formed from public cooperation and, after collecting ideas from the community and having the plan reviewed by a local community securement consultation group, will decide on the ‘Fourth Gangdong-gu plan for securement of local community.’

Gangdong-gu will execute research on the actual conditions of one-person households of middle-aged people due to the rising percentage of deaths in solitude and plans to focus on forming a comprehensive policy to present deaths in solitude.

An official of Gangdong-gu commented, “This ‘Fourth plan for securement of local community’ will expand the policy from one focusing mainly on welfare into policy that covers ten different fields which include security, safety, residency, employment, education, culture, leisure and environment. We expect it to offer more opportunities for more local residents to enjoy welfare benefits for an improved quality of life.”
