06-04-2018

Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will begin the “Godeokcheon Stream Ecological Experience Program” starting April 8 for citizens to learn and experience the ever-changing stream ecosystem.

As a local stream flowing through Gangdong-gu’s Sangil-dong, Gangil-dong, and Godeok-dong, Godeokcheon Stream is an area highly suitable as an ecological environment. The area is composed of trails and bicycle lanes, together with diverse trees and flowers that make it popular as a resting area for citizens.

There are distinct changes in the natural environment, as the seasons and weather change, and citizens can observe various animals, plants, and insects, making it an optimal natural learning space to better understand the value of nature and life.

Utilizing the ecological environment of Godeokcheon Stream, Gangdong-gu began the “Godeokcheon Stream Ecological Experience Program.” This program offers children factual information about natural ecology and gives citizens, weary from city life, the opportunity to heal body and soul through nature.

The experience program, running from April 8 to October 28, will take place every Sunday at 2 p.m. over the entire area from Godeokcheon Stream to Mangwolcheon Stream.

Lectures will be given by a natural environment commentator from the river and wetlands field. Monthly lectures will be given on the following topics: ▲ April – The stream in springtime after overcoming winter, ▲ May – Who lives in the water, ▲ June – Stream families that like water, ▲ July – Dragonflies are flying about/Finding sounds of the stream, ▲ August – Who is the singer in the bush, ▲ September – Grass insects that cry in autumn/The travels of a seed, ▲ October – Why leaves change color in autumn, as well as other programs based on various themes.

An official of Gangdong-gu stated, “It is our hope that the Godeokcheon Stream Ecological Experience Program will be an opportunity for citizens to learn about our neighborhood stream’s ecosystem,” and “we ask for your interest so that many can enjoy an emotionally beneficial time at Godeokcheon Stream.”

All citizens can participate in the Godeokcheon Stream Ecological Experience Program and entry is free. Visitors may sign up under the online reservation corner at the Gangdong-gu website (http://www.gangdong.go.kr), and may contact Gangdong-gu Office Green Urban Division (☎02-3425-6453) for inquiries and more information.
