05-04-2018

Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will hold the <Jointly-Governed Gangdong: 100+ Person Roundtable Discussion> on April 10 (Tues.) from 2:30 p.m. on the fifth-floor auditorium.

This debate will address the core agenda and selection of order of priority in the district’s last stage of the 「Local Community Present Condition Examination and Diagnostic Service for a Joint-Governance System」 for understanding the level of local joint-governance.

The Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival, first held in 1996, celebrates its 23rd anniversary this year. As the only prehistoric culture festival in Seoul, its distinct identity and various creative programs attract over 400,000 people each year, and has settled in as the greatest festival in the region with a high percentage of visiting tourists.

Gangdong-gu plans to grasp the high-demand local community agenda and discover topics for private-public joint-governance through heated discussion of the 100+ participants.

Each table will have a facilitator (debate promoter) from specialized debate agencies stationed for smooth discussion of topics regarding joint-governance, and there will be wireless voting and a web-debate system for each table to share opinions in real time.

There is the possibility for analyzed results of the debate to become private-public joint projects after careful deliberation by the Joint-Governance Gangdong-gu Council and sub-council.

All Gangdong-gu residents can take part in the debate, and anyone hoping to participate can sign up through the Gangdong-gu website or via telephone (☎02-3425-5414).

The district is also accepting applications for sub-council members willing to personally participate in public-private joint-governance and implement agenda topics. Applicants can sign up by phone (☎02-3425-5414).

A Gangdong-gu official commented, “We hope that the Jointly-Governed Gangdong debate will lead to policies that residents actually want and also be an opportunity to heighten residents’ continued interest and participation in public-private joint-governance.”

In addition, Gangdong-gu is encouraging “private-public joint-governance” that supports public-private communication and cooperation in order to increase confrontational power and policy effectiveness regarding various local community problems that are complicated and difficult to resolve by government administration.

Last February, the 「Fundamental Regulations for Promotion of Public-Private Joint-Governance in Gangdong-gu, Seoul」 was established to systematically support public-private joint-governance, and a ‘joint-governance school’ will open in March to promote citizen understanding regarding joint-governance.

For more information, inquiries can be made to Gangdong-gu Office Planning and Budget Division (☎02-3425-5414).
