Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will open its youth entrepreneurship residence “Gangdong Drone Village” on March 9. This project is part of the district’s plan for linked development with the local community through discovery and nurturing of young entrepreneurs in the fields of 3D printing, the Internet of Things, and other advanced information and communication technologies, together with the drone that has become a key piece of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Gangdong-gu has collaborated with Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation since 2016 to provide public rental offices and residential spaces for young entrepreneurs.

The ‘Gangdong Drone Village’ (36, Olympic-ro 79-gil, Gangdong-gu) will be the second youth residence to open, following ‘Amsa Dojeonsuk,’ which was opened for individual creative entrepreneurs and youth preparing for entrepreneurship.

There are currently 15 enterprises of the Fourth Industrial Revolution category occupying the village, and like its name “Drone Village,” over 50% of these occupying enterprises are engaged in the drone industry. Located in the vicinity of Gwangnaru Hangang Park, where flying drones is permitted, this space offers the optimal business environment for drone-related enterprises.

Gangdong Drone Village stands out motivation centered around the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the latest topic of conversation. 3D printing, drones, the Internet of Things, and other advanced information and communication technologies are fused with the economy and society at large, and are noted to be the center of creation of future foods and employment.

To keep up with the flow of the times, Gangdong-gu plans to continually discover and nurture competent young entrepreneurs of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, as well as fortify young entrepreneur networks for continuous linked development with the local community.

The opening ceremony of ‘Gangdong Drone Village’ will be held at 11 a.m. on March 9. The event will include a drone-controlled signboard unveiling ceremony, display of 3D printers, tracking drones (for crime prevention), and other products, as well as introductions of the occupying enterprises, images of Gangdong-gu filmed with drone cameras, and other attractions.

Mayor Lee Hae-sik commented, “It is our hope that Gangdong Drone Village will support local youth enterprises that will take the lead in the times of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and become an opportunity to secure future competitiveness of local industries.”

The district plans to create two more youth residences like Gangdong Drone Village in Cheonho-dong and Sangil-dong. More information is to be available after May, from Gangdong-gu Office Social Economy Division (☎02-3425-5063).
