Gangdong-gu, Operation of Nation’s First Drone for Control of Dust-Scattering Construction Sites$- Gangdong-gu will begin using drone, starting in March, to help manage noise and scattered dust generated in construction sites- Offer citizens a safe and pleasant environment to minimize discomforts of reconstruction

Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will begin operation of the nation’s first “drone for noise and dust control in construction sites” for efficient management of large-scale construction sites.

Gangdong-gu plans to utilize the drone to improve efficiency, since, at present, in a specially managed business, which can be more than ten times the size of those generally managed, it is much more difficult to control the specific details of a construction site.

Thirty large-scale noise- and dust-producing construction sites, with over 100,000㎡ in total ground area, are scheduled to be managed by the new drone.

The drone will be flown a minimum of twice a month for aerial shooting of business sites and inspection of dust control equipment (dustproof coverings, dustproof walls, tire-washing equipment, etc.) and special noise-canceling equipment. Upon discovery of any violation, a squad will be dispatched to the site to take prompt administrative measures.

An official of Gangdong-gu stated, “The utilization of a drone will efficiently manage and control production of scattering dust from large-scale reconstruction sites without blind spots, and we will be able to grasp operation of special equipment and operation conditions to monitor generation of noise. We will be able to provide citizens with a safe and pleasant environment while contributing to air quality improvement and the reduction of fine dust.”

Gangdong-gu is actively promoting reconstruction projects of 25 apartment complexes, including Dunchon Jugong Apartment, the country’s largest apartment structure, and the district is making various efforts to minimize any related citizen discomfort.

From the end of March, to help reduce fine dust, Gangdong-gu will operate private-public joint inspections with “Gangdong-gu Bangtan Citizens,” to fortify the direction and supervision of dust-scattering business sites.
