Gangdong-gu (Mayor: Lee Hae-sik) will operate a cultural art program with local citizens beginning in March at Kang Full Cartoon Street ‘Seungryong’s House’ (65-29, Cheonho-daero 168ga-gil) in Seongnae-dong. In February, new youth residents made preparations for home baking, ‘toon toy’ figure making, and other talent donation activities, accepting participants on a first come, first served basis. A home café occupies the first floor, where adults can learn various home recipes and take baking classes each month. The first 10 a.m. class on March 27 will offer a tiramisu recipe that can be easily repeated at home. Youth residents on the third floor planned an animation experience targeted at local youth. The “toon toy figure making,” which is the creation of one’s very own toy through drawing on a 3-dimensional figure, is planned for 5 p.m. on the 15th and will be targeted at elementary school students. There is also the “animation flipbook making,” where drawings in a book create an animated story. This will be targeted at middle and high school students and will be held in two sessions, on the 22nd and 29th at 5 p.m. Anyone wishing to participate can download the application at the district office website, under Public Announcement (http://www.gangdong.go.kr → Administration and Public Notice → Public Announcement) and email jangml713@gangdong.go.kr through which applicants will be chosen on a first come, first served basis. There are no fees, but each program requires cost of materials, which can be checked before applying. ‘Seungryong’s House’ is located in Seongnae-dong Kang Full Cartoon Street, 150 meters from Gangdong Station, exit 4 of subway line 5. A local community facility named after the main character in Kang Full’s webtoon, Babo, the first floor is a café, the second floor a cartoon room, and the third floor a workroom for young resident artists. The café is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the cartoon room from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., both of which are open to anyone from Monday to Saturday.
