Gangdong-gu Designates Additional [Indoor Sports Facilities] as Non-smoking Zones $ Billiard rooms, screen golf centers, etc., to be additionally designated as non-smoking zones from December 3

22-11-2017

From December 3, Gangdong-gu will designate indoor sports facilities as non-smoking zones, such as billiard rooms and screen golf centers among registered/reported sports facilities.

It is a measure enforced by the National Assembly in November that has passed a grace period of 1 year after the resolution of the revised bill of the national health promotion act, which contains information about the designation of non-smoking zones in regards to indoor sports facilities.

As a result, 8 non-smoking zone advisors visited 634 indoor sports facilities in the district including billiard rooms and golf centers, installed non-smoking signs, provided intensive guidance and notified the facilities of the issues related to non-smoking zone management such as standards for smoking room installations.

Signs clarifying the non-smoking zone must be displayed in the indoor facilities, and if this is violated, they will be subject to corrective order. If the facilities continue to violate the non-smoking sign duty, a penalty of 1,700,000 won for the 1st warning, 3,300,000 won for the 2nd warning and 5,000,000 won for the 3rd warning will be imposed. People smoking in indoor non-smoking zones will be subject to 100,000 won as a penalty.

The district plans to carry out regular inspections to reduce confusion following the expansion of non-smoking zones starting in December and for a non-smoking culture in indoor sports facilities to take root in its early stages.
