Nutrition Camp for Mothers and Children $ Customized nutrition consultation through dietary record "our children's eating habits under the responsibility of mothers"

09-11-2017

On November 18, Gangdong Center for Children's Foodservice Management (hereinafter, 'center') will hold the '2nd Nutrition Camp for Mothers and Children' for the registered children and parents of the center. This nutrition camp, which is being held as a special project of the center, plans to provide experience-based education for the 23 children and 23 mothers so that children, who are used to processed and instant food, can realize the importance of maintaining a healthy diet.

While the children participate in the diet promotion puppet show [Vegetable Power of Ddubi] and let's play [Fun Fun Mini Olympics], mothers will participate in the [What have our children eaten and how? - Customized nutrition consultation using dietary record results] by the center's nutritionist and the [Kkureogi table! Correcting picky eating habits] educational program. This will be followed by the delicious and healthy cooking [Kkureogi table! Making tofu crackers & milk jelly] program.

This program involves making healthy snacks such as crackers or jelly that children like and that mothers can easily make at home using tofu or milk.

The program that received the most attention in the 1st nutrition camp was the [Customized Nutrition Consultation], which analyzed the children's food consumption tendencies and status through a 3-day, 24-hour retrospective dietary investigation, held individual consultations and provided a nutrition solution for resolving issues. Most of the children who participated enjoyed eating instant and processed foods, lacked vegetable and fruit consumption and had a higher consumption rate of sodium on weekends compared to weekdays, due to frequent visits to restaurants. The program underscored the fact that improper eating habits of children arise from their mothers, and taught the appropriate portion for a meal utilizing a meal composition and food tray model through a food substitution table, helping them create balanced nutrition at home.

In addition, according to the results of a satisfaction survey of the 1st nutrition camp, 100% of the participants responded with 'highly satisfied' in terms of the nutrition camp program, and replied [We will practice a healthy dietary lifestyle for the creation of proper dietary habits for our family] after participating in the camp. The participating parents said, "We were able to focus well thanks to the separate programs for the children and mothers, and time flew by thanks to all of the various programs. It was an opportunity to reassess our children's eating habits."

The center is in the process of planning various projects for the balanced growth and development of children into the future. In 2018, they plan to promulgate the importance of 'vegetable and fruit consumption' in regards to the improvement of health and nutritional status of our children and families, and hold various experience-based nutrition camps to help put this into practice.
