In Gangdong-gu, Children are Safe Even at Night! $ ‘ Installation of solar LED traffic safety sign in children protection zones ’

07-11-2017

Gangdong-gu revealed that they have replaced the existing reflective traffic safety signs with LED solar signs (self-luminous type) that are visible at night in children protection zones, and created a safer walking environment to mitigate against traffic-related accidents involving children and pedestrians.

This year, Gangdong-gu conducted a comprehensive investigation on walking safety for children within children protection zones and selected a total of 20 locations in 11 facilities for the installation of LED signs, including Gangdong Elementary School, Gildong Elementary School and Myogok Elementary School where there is a high volume of traffic and many pedestrians.

The district has been conducting the LED sign replacement project since 2014 and has replaced/installed a total of 102 signs as of this year. The LED sign uses solar power to charge energy during the day and illuminates at night. It compensates the flaws of the existing reflective sign and in particular, aims to prevent traffic accidents involving children and pedestrians returning home at late hours and ensure walking safety with its high visibility.

This project not only helps children and pedestrians walk more safely and comfortably in children protection zones, but also is expected to help maintain security such as preventing crime.

In addition, Gangdong-gu is working on the 'Yellow Carpet Installation', 'Children Protection Zone Improvement Project' and the 'Construction of Special Roads for Safe Walking in School Zones' for traffic safety within children protection zones, and have mentioned that they will continue their efforts in the projects for upholding walking safety within children protection zones.
