Gangdong-gu Wins First Prize at the 6th Korea Knowledge Awards!$Open, sharing and communication based public knowledge administration

Gangdong-gu won the First Prize at the 6th Korea Knowledge Awards Ceremony held at the Shilla Hotel Yeong Bin Gwan on the 19th (Thu.).

The Korea Knowledge Awards is jointly organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Maeil Business Newspaper, and is an award of the highest authority that selects the best institutes in the public knowledge administration/management field among administrative agencies, public institutions and private enterprises.

Gangdong-gu, which was selected for the First Prize in the Administration category, was highly evaluated for its public knowledge administration to improve competitiveness while operating a cooperation system that registers and shares knowledge.

Examples of public knowledge administration include [Reading Academy] and [Study Guild] for the stabilization of public office culture that studies creative administrations; [Gangdong Future Forum] for finding future-oriented development plans based on professional knowledge; [Opening & Talk] for the mayor and employees to share policy visions; and [Gangdong-gu Mayor's Class] and [Open Debate] for gathering collective intelligence and solving policy issues.

Examples of administrative services based on knowledge activities that have received attention include [Gangpul Cartoon Alley], which revitalized a normal alley by recreating scenes from Webtoons on walls, and the [Healthy 100-years-old Counseling Center], which became a demonstration model for the national health promotion integrated services project and the Seoul metabolic syndrome project.

Gangdong-gu also made efforts in the utilization of technology that serves as the foundation for the 4th industrial revolution. They analyzed civilian complaints posted on the district website as big data, sought scientific administration and supplied the mobile walking application [Oreugo Nanugo], which is based on Near Field Communication (NFC), to apartment houses in the district. In addition, they have been working to combine IT technology to the administration by installing 'Beacon' devices in public restrooms for women's safety.

 Mayor of Gangdong-gu Lee Hae-sik said, "A knowledge-based administration that systematically searches for and shares the knowledge and know-how of organizations and individuals is the driving force behind establishing policies that district residents can agree to. Using this award as an opportunity, we will continue to search for various methods to further invigorate knowledge management within the organization and the public knowledge administration."
