08-08-2017

20 members of the Cool City Gangdong Network and government employees of Gangdong-gu will hold a ‘Cool Maepsi Campaign’ on August 10th at Cheonho Station with a high floating population to overcome the power crisis and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the summer.

‘Cool Maepsi’ is a compound word of ‘cool’ for staying cool during the hot summer and ‘maepsi’ that means attire and appearance in Korean. Therefore, the word, ‘Cool Maepsi’ means to save energy by wearing cool yet formal and stylish attire to lower the temperature sensibly and keep the room temperature up.

This campaign is part of the effort of reducing one ton of greenhouse gas emissions per person and a member of the Cool City Network will play a leading role in increasing the awareness of climate change and encouraging the participation of residents in saving energy and combating climate change.

The participants of the campaign will encourage residents to join the energy saving campaign by sharing ways to save energy and promote a low carbon lifestyle by wearing cool meapsi and keeping the room temperature at 26-28℃ during the summer.

Gandong-gu plans to frequently hold campaigns to encourage residents to wear cool maepsi, keep the room temperature at a certain level in summer, sign up for eco-mileage membership, and introduce ten rules of green life in Gangdong-gu to consistently put its effort in saving energy.

A Gangdong-gu official explained, “Even if you keep the room temperature 1℃ higher in the summer, when the amount of energy consumption soars, you can reduce 110 kg of CO2. I hope all residents will join the campaign to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by wearing cool clothes and keeping the room temperature at a certain level.”
