KangFull Cartoon Alley of Gangdong-gu Receives ‘Asian Townscape Award’ $ KangFull Cartoon Alley of Gangdong-gu was globally recognized and received ‘Asian Townscape Award’

KangFull Cartoon Alley of Gangdong-gu was selected as the award winner of the ‘2017 Asia Townscape Award’.

The Asia Townscape Award is the most prestigious international townscape award awarded by the UN-Habitat Fukuoka Office, Fukuoka Asian Urban Research Center, Asian Habitat Society, and Asia Townscape Design Society since 2010.

It is an award given to exemplary cities, regions, and projects in Asia based on an evaluation criteria that includes harmony with the surrounding environment, safety, substantiality, historical and artistic values, and regional contribution.

Out of 53 entries from 8 Asian countries, 13 entries and 2 entries were awarded the ‘townscape award’ and ‘jury prize’ respectively. KangFull Cartoon Alley of Gangdong-gu was proudly listed as a ‘townscape award’ winner. The award ceremony will take place on the 28th of next month in Yinchuan, China.

A Gangdong-gu official said, “I hope KangFull Cartoon Alley will be introduced to many people at home and abroad after receiving the award this year,” and added, “We will do our best to develop Gangdong-gu as part of the city where beautiful and desirable landscapes are proudly presented.”

KangFull Cartoon Alley is a famous tourist attraction of Gangdong-gu created by residents of Gangdong-gu, volunteers, artists, and cartoonist KangFull, by painting the walls of the street with 52 murals selected from four series of KangFull’s cartoon.

The murals painted at the entrance of the alley, telephone poles and retaining walls naturally blend in the with the village and create a friendly scenery.

‘Seungryong’s House’ located toward the end of KangFull Cartoon Alley is a community house named after the main character of KangFull’s cartoon, ‘Fool.’

There is a cafe on the first floor, a comic book library on the 2nd floor, and a workroom for cartoonists on the 3rd floor. Seungryong’s House has been greatly loved by the residents and visitors for holding cartoon classes, playing movies, and organizing job experience programs.
