Gangdong-gu newly remodeled the foot volleyball court at Samteo Neighborhood Park in Godeok-dong in order to create a pleasant park environment and promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage the daily exercise of residents.

Samteo Neighborhood Park was built in 1985 as a part of the Godeok housing development plan and the outdated facility was in urgent need of renovation for the members of sports clubs and residents who use the foot volleyball court.

As a result, Gangdong-gu secured a total of 1.18 billion KRW in federal and municipal budget to remodel the foot volleyball court in the neighborhood park to meet the needs of users. The four surfaces of the court were expanded to six surfaces including three surfaces covered with artificial turf and another three surfaces covered with soil. Light towers were also installed to allow the residents to use the facility even at night in addition to a management office, restrooms, outdoor grandstand, pergola, and other sports facilities for the benefit and convenience of residents.

The office also planted 46 high trees including bridal wreath and zelkova trees in addition to 4,630 shrubs around the court as a means to improve the overall landscape of the park. In particular, the office reused 28 maple trees and Korean early lilacs that were about to be cut down due to the extension work of Cheonho-daero and reconstruction of the 5th multi-family housing complex in Godeok-dong. Eco-friendly materials were used for the grandstand ramp instead of a concrete retaining wall to ensure a natural design that blends in with the surroundings.

Gangdong-gu is expecting that the newly remodeled foot volleyball court will significantly contribute to improving the overall living environment of residents who have indicated that they need more leisure venues.

Furthermore, a Gangdong-gu official said, “The foot volleyball court at Samteo Neighborhood Park will be a place where the residents and the members of the foot volleyball club can form new bonds while enjoying the leisure activity together”, and added, “We will continue to expand the sports facilities in the park to maximize convenience of the residents”.
