Gangdong-gu operates 2017 Multicultural Families School so that they can adjust to society as important community members as part of their social integration and improve the quality of their lives.

The Multicultural Families School consists of family picnic programs and four courses: Marital Education, Parental Education, Children Education, and Family Education. The programs and courses are provided at the Education Hall of Gangdong-gu Healthy Families and Multicultural Families Support Center and outdoors from June to November.

The educational courses are provided to 150 multicultural family members divided into three groups. Children from babies to 7 years old are Group 1, children aged between 14 and 19 in Group 2, and children aged between 8 and 13 in Group 3.

Education is provided from 10am to 4pm on June 10 (Saturday) for Group 1, August 12 (Saturday) for Group 2, and September 16 (Saturday) for Group 3. Parental education involves child care tips and how to communicate with children, and marital education consists of couple massage, couple yoga, face washing ceremony, life graph drawing, and conversational techniques. In children education, children can join physical activities, art activities (painting, hide-and-seek, and board games), allowance management education (market play), and sexual education. Lastly, all family members can join family activities, family drama club, and family play. After education, the participants will write a review and exemplary reviews will be selected. In November, the selected families will go on a picnic.

Last year, a total of 455 people participated in the Multicultural Families School and greatly improved the relationships with their family members. Furthermore, the school contributed to social integration by improving participants’ sociality and accepting a variety of cultures.

As many working parents could not participate in the school since many programs were provided on weekday evenings, 2017 Multicultural Families School will be held on Saturday.
