In May, which is Family Month, Gangdong-gu will hold the “Postcard to Your Parents” event to encourage 4,500 children including elementary students and kindergarteners in expressing their gratitude to their parents.

The purpose of the event is not only to remind children of the importance of their families but also to provide an opportunity for the entire families to become familiar with street addresses.

This event is expected to arouse children’s curiosity about the analog mailing system in the digital era by writing a postcard to their parents and to draw attention to street addresses from teachers and parents.

Although the event was previously held for third and fourth graders only, Gangdong-gu will hold the event this year for a wider range of participants. A total of 45 educational institutions including 13 elementary schools, 6 kindergartens, and 26 day care centers decided to participate in the event.

Gangdong-gu created the Postcard of Love with a friendly and heart-warming design to match with the children’s level and distributed the postcards to educational institutions. Before Parents’ Day, the participating educational institutions will hand out the postcards to children and mail them to their street addresses.

An official at the Gangdong-gu Office said, “The Postcard to Your Parents event is expected to remind children of the importance of their families but also to provide an opportunity for the entire families to become familiar with street addresses.”
