Turn off the Light and Turn on the Light of Life. Turn off the Lights for only One Hour to Save the Earth!

23-03-2017

Turn off the lights for only one hour to save the Earth!

Earth Hour, which was first started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007, is a worldwide movement to save energy and give the Earth a rest. This annual event encourages people to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm, on the last Saturday of March every year.

Gangdong-gu is participating in this event proactively in order to contribute to reducing greenhouse gases and to take the initiative in responding to climate change.

To minimize inconveniences, the participants are divided into Mandatory (public facilities only), Recommended, and Autonomous. Households (apartments and detached houses) should turn off indoor and outdoor lights for ten minutes and then may watch TV if so desire. Shopping centers and large buildings should turn off all landscape lighting but may turn on indoor lights if necessary.

In the March Greenway Walk Festival, Gangdong-gu will conduct various PR activities for Earth Hour to encourage the participation of citizens.

By understanding the message of this campaign, "1-hour of Miracle to Save Earth", citizens’ proactive participation in turning off lights for an hour will contribute to protecting the Earth and creating a sustainable future of green Gangdong-gu.
