Guaranteeing the Safety of Gangdong-gu with New Security CCTVs

27-02-2017

Gangdong-gu is replacing and installing new security CCTVs in high crime areas of the district to prevent crimes and keep residents safe.

Gangdong-gu currently operates a total of 554 security CCTVs at 385 locations including 85 0.41-megapixel cameras, 10 1.3-megapixel cameras, and 459 2-megapixel cameras. Gangdong-gu plans to install 2-megapixel cameras at 55 new locations this year. In addition, the 85 0.41-megapixel cameras that were installed before 2011 will be replaced with 2-megapixel cameras.

The CCTV maintenance project is based on CEPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design). Gangdong-gu will post yellow stickers on the 316 pillars where CCTVs are installed to make sure the CCTVs are easily noticeable from a distance and also at night. There will be alarms for the CCTVs installed at 54 locations for the safety of pedestrians at night. The emergency alarm system will send the images recorded by the CCTVs to the control center in real-time to enable an immediate response in the case of emergency situations.

Gangdong-gu will be inspecting the sites and gathering opinions of the residents within this month and begin the maintenance project in May. Gangdong-gu believes that this project will greatly contribute to protecting lives and assets of the residents.

A representative of Gangdong-gu explained, “It is very important to maintain the CCTVs in the best possible condition since it functions as a major security device. We will continue to create a safe living environment by continuously upkeeping the performance and efficiency of the CCTVs installed in Gangdong-gu.”
