Gangdong-Gu declared on the 4th of April to be started a research on illegally constructed buildings until July. Ilegal constructions are built without permission or legal progress confirmed, and Gangdong-Gu has been conducting an annual checkup on this matter to prevent construction accidents such as fire or sudden collapses. The owner, construction format, extent, etc are the main standards needed to be considered for this research done in the scene. Last year, based on an examination of a satellite photograph of Seoul, a total of 7804 constructions were judged to be the subjects of consideration as illegally built ones. Gangdong-Gu claimed that if a certain construction was confirmed to be built out of the legal process, they would impose a voluntary correction to the owner of the building. Then, the architecture would go through the steps set by the official guidelines for illegal construction in Seoul, which involves the building being marked as "illegal construction" and the owner of it paying a mandatory fee. A related official from the Gangdong-Gu city spoke out, "We hope for our residents to cooperate to this project for a better living environment to be formed without illegally constructed buildings randomly destroying it. For the prevention of such crimes as faking to be an official person from the city hall and demanding for money in change of not being exposed for the illegal constructions owned, we will provide posters informing about these types of fraud at the residents center and work more for the promotion our building environment." |
