Gangdong-gu promotes the 7th extension of the measures to support parking fees for public parking lots.

Gangdong-gu, Seoul, announced on the 26th that it will extend the end date of parking fee support measures from the 31st of this month to March 31, 2022 as the local economy stagnates due to the prolonged COVID-19.

Since April 2020, the district has been reducing parking fees for public parking lots by 50% to reduce the economic burden on large bus drivers such as tourist buses. The target is 66 large buses that use regular parking at Cheonho Reservoir and Gangil-dong public parking lots.

In addition, from May 18, 2020, 19 public parking lots on the street and off-street in the jurisdiction have provided free parking for one hour. Part-time parking vehicles excluding monthly ticket vehicles are eligible, and parking fees are exempted if they leave within an hour after entering the car.

The project was scheduled to be operated temporarily, but as it has been extended due to the prolonged COVID-19, it is currently the only one among 25 districts in Seoul to provide parking fees. In other words, the district provides an average of 47 million won per month to revitalize the local economy.

Mayor Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu District Office, said, "For small business owners and residents who are threatened with COVID-19, the public parking fee reduction policy will be extended until March next year," adding, "We will continue to come up with practical measures to support residents' lives and revive the local economy."
