Subject Gang Dong-gu, suicide rate significantly reduced... 21.7 per 100,000 people

Gangdong-gu, (Mayor Lee Jung-hun) announced on the 15th that it recorded the lowest suicide rate since 2017. According to data from the National Statistical Office at the end of September, the number of suicide deaths in Gangdong-gu was 21.7 per 100,000, lower than the national average of 25.7 and the Seoul average of 22.7.

It ranked 15th among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul, a significant decrease from the 4th place in 2019, and also recorded the lowest ranking within the past 10 years. In addition, while the average suicide rate in Seoul increased compared to 2019, the suicide rate in Gangdong-gu decreased by 4.4, which is significantly lower than the national average decrease (1.2 people). This is analyzed as a result of the district's efforts to discover potential risk groups for depression and intensive management of high-risk groups in a difficult situation in which mental health is threatened as more and more residents complain of depression and psychological difficulties after the outbreak of COVID-19.
The district reduced the economic and psychological burden of psychiatric treatment through the operation of a specialized project, the 'Respect for Life Project', and suppressed the early detection of suicide risk groups and their progression to severe disease.

Last year, the Gangdong-gu Mental Health Welfare Center website was improved to expand the online mental health self-diagnosis test so that all residents can easily use it.
In addition, ▲Installation of shadow lighting for the love of life to create a suicide prevention environment and a culture of respect for life ▲Education for respect for life by life cycle and training for lifeguards ▲Emotional support service for the elderly Supporting mental health checkups and counseling costs ▲To overcome Corona Blue Providing psychological quarantine kits ▲Held meetings with related organizations and promoted related projects.

Mayor Lee Jung-hun said, “The fact that our district’s suicide rate has decreased significantly while the national suicide rate has increased significantly is the result of various suicide prevention projects.
