Subject Gangdong-gu, Protection Pavilion of Amsa-dong Prehistoric Remains Opened

On the 8th of October, Gangdong-gu announced that a new observation institution, ‘Protection Pavilion of Remains,’ will be open at the historic site No. 267 in Amsa-dong, Seoul.

An academic excavation survey was conducted at Amsa-dong historic site from 2016 to 2018 to illuminate the academic value of the prehistoric remains. Through excavation, burnt dwelling sites from the Neolithic Era and the Three Kingdoms period were found. Important relics that can show the life of prehistoric ages, such as comb-pattern potteries, jade ornaments, and obsidian materials, which are almost perfectly preserved, have been excavated and have attracted the attention of the academic community.

The Protection Pavilion of Remains was installed to preserve an important historical site discovered during the 2016-2017 excavation and to use the site for education.

As a part of the National Treasury Subsidy Project for the maintenance and repairing of cultural properties, the protection pavilion will be open to residents after undergoing 2018’s architectural design, documentation, and preservation projects.

It has been reproduced so that you can see the excavation site vividly along the exhibition circulation. It helps the audience to understand through video or audio guide.

Exhibiting the soil layer with a depth of about 3m, you can get a glimpse of the process of formation of the Amsa-dong remains and the traces of ancient people, from the Neolithic Age through the Three Kingdoms period to the present day. Anyone who visits the Amsa-dong remains can see the Protection Pavilion of Remains.

Gangdong-gu mayor Lee Jung hun said, "As the construction of the protection pavilion, which has been carried out to preserve the cultural heritage of the Amsa-dong remains, is completed, we expect the Amsa-dong remains to be used as a prehistoric culture education place.”
