Subject 7 new eco-friendly urban gardens open in Gangdong-gu

Gangdong-gu, Seoul (mayor Lee Jung hoon) announced on the 20th that it will open seven urban gardens including six urban gardens (Gangil, Garaeyeoul, Amsa, Sangil, Gildong, and Jiksan) and Gangdong Healing Farm, a garden for the disabled people.

According to the district government, in order to contribute to the realization of urban agriculture by increasing the participation rate of residents, organic fertilizer will be distributed separately from the 21st to the 29th, which is the opening day of the garden that will be opened this autumn.

Currently, the district is continuously making a lot of efforts to foster an eco-friendly environment in the garden and to create a healthy leisure culture. As part of such efforts, the district is now operating a total of 6258-account gardens, including ▲ public urban gardens ▲ private community gardens ▲ community centers' urban gardens.

More than 1,400 urban farmers who are selected this year through fierce competition will reorganize their gardens in time for autumn crop cultivation and also encourage active participation through communication among the participants themselves. In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the opening event of the garden will not be held particularly.

An official from the district office's urban agriculture department said, "Until the end of the coronavirus, people who use the garden should properly wear masks and use hand sanitizers when visiting the garden for consideration among neighbors."
