Subject Construction of fuel cell power plant in Gangdong, Seoul.

The Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Corporation announced on the 29th that it has begun construction of a hydrogen fuel cell power plant inside the Seoul Transportation Corporation's vehicle base in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
The Godeok Clean Energy Company, which will run the fuel cell power plant, will invest 40% of its stake and three companies, SK Eco Plant, Cowon Energy Service, and KB Asset Management, will participate with 60% of its stake.
Godeok Clean Energy plans to spend 118.7 billion won to complete the plant in July 2022. The plant will install a 19.8MW power generation facility consisting of 45 440kW fuel cells of Doosan Pure Cell, producing about 150 million kWh of electricity for 52,000 households per year and 82,000Gcal of heat for 13,000 households.

Fuel cells are highly energy-efficient even if they are installed on a small scale in the city center, which can produce large amounts of renewable energy. In addition, nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulfur oxide (SOx), and dust, which are major substances of fine dust, are not generated and are considered environmentally friendly distributed power generation sources.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by KHNP President Chung Jae-hoon, Rep. Jin Sun-mi of the Democratic Party of Korea, Jeon Hwi-soo of Godeok Clean Energy, Gangdong-gu District mayor Lee Jung hun, SK Eco Plant President Ahn Jae-hyun, and Cowon Energy Service President Bae Myung-ho.
"While countries around the world are competing to take the lead in hydrogen society, hydrogen fuel cell power plants are the main axis of a hydrogen society," said CEO Chung Jae-hoon. "We will continue to contribute to accelerating carbon-neutral society by developing various convergence business models."
