Subject Gangdong-gu signed an agreement to reuse ice packs

Gangdong-gu (head of the district office Lee Jung-hun) signed a business agreement to promote the reuse of ice packs with the Korea Environment Corporation, Small Enterprise Market Service and civic group Environment Owner Citizens Gathering at the meeting room on the third floor of Gangdong-gu Office on the 29th July, 2021.

As the summer heat continues, the use of ice packs is increasing rapidly to maintain the freshness of food products that are prone to spoilage, and environmental problems caused by ice packs that are thrown away are also becoming serious.

Previously, the district established the ice pack reuse collection system for the first time in 2019 and signed an agreement with Hyundai Home Shopping and the Traditional Market Merchants Association in the district. To make a steady push, Gangdong-gu has entered into a business agreement with the Western Metropolitan Regional Headquarters of Korea Environment Corporation and Seoul-Gangwon Regional Headquarters of Small Enterprise Market Service Seoul metropolitan region.

Gangdong-gu has decided to establish an organic cooperation system with the Korea Environment Corporation, Small Enterprise Market Service, and civic groups and create a society where municipal waste is reduced and resources are recycled through an eco-friendly campaign to reuse ice packs.

In addition, the district cleaned, disinfected, and packed the ice packs through a specialized disinfection company to solve sanitary problems caused by reuse of ice packs and provides free support to small business owners such as traditional markets, fisheries companies, food companies, and supermarkets.

By starting the ice pack recycling project in 2019, it has supported more than 178,000 so far, and the demand is continuously increasing.

"The agreement has enabled private, government, and public corporation to co-operate organically to solve environmental problems," said Lee Jung-hun, head of Gangdong-gu district office. "We will continue to work together to promote eco-friendly policies based on public-private cooperation and make every effort to become a green city of Gangdong-gu.
