Subject Gangdong-gu won the Korea Environmental Awards.

Gangdong-gu announced on July 7 that it has won the 16th Korea Environment Awards in the field of urban agriculture at the DMC Tower of Small and Medium Enterprises in Mapo-gu for 11 consecutive years.
The Korea Environment Awards are representative awards in the Korean environment sector hosted by the Korea Environment Awards Committee and Environmental Media, sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
The 16th Korea Environment Awards will be awarded to organizations and individuals who have worked hard in all fields, including management, education, culture, tourism, ecological restoration, recycling, industrial equipment, energy conservation, agricultural and livestock products.
Gangdong-gu won the Korea Environment Awards this year, and is the only winner of the Korea Environment Awards for 11 consecutive years, recognized the achievements of various eco-friendly projects through urban agricultural policies.
Gangdong-gu Urban Agriculture enacted the Gangdong-gu Eco-friendly Urban Agriculture Act in 2010 for the first time in the country, influencing the enactment of the Urban Agriculture Act and the Seoul Metropolitan Agriculture Act.
Through urban agriculture, the district operates urban vegetable gardens, local seed libraries, urban bee farms, urban agricultural parks, public food centers, and Famix centers.
It not only systematically and cheaply supplies "fresh and safe food" directly from eco-friendly agricultural products, but also helps farmers secure stable sales channels and reduce greenhouse gases generated by long-distance transportation of agricultural products.
In addition, the number of urban vegetable gardens in Gangdong-gu has increased from 226 in 2010 to 6,258 by 2021.
In addition, this year, it is operating a "share farm" and a "one-day experience home garden" to share a vegetable garden with local residents to restore community culture and spread shared culture. Gangdong-gu is the only autonomous area in the city to promote horticultural healing programs for low-income residents and expand social urban agriculture linked to welfare functions.
Lee Jung-hun, head of Gangdong-gu, said, "The 11th consecutive year of winning the Grand Prize through the efforts of local residents and employees is a valuable achievement."
