Subject ‘Gangdong Dream-drae Market’, the First Cafe for the Disabled Re-opened

Gangdong-gu said, "The first cafe for the people with disabilities, 'Gangdong Dream-drae Market', has re-opened recently after renovation.”

'Gangdong Dream-drae Market', which was first opened in 2012, has been exhibiting and selling the products from 11 vocational rehabilitation facilities for the disabled. It was the place for sales and promotion of the products produced by the people with disabilities.

In addition, since 2013, the market has expanded as a ‘cafe-type store for products by the disabled’ by hiring many baristas with disabilities. It helped the people with disabilities to become self-reliant and abolishing society’s prejudices against people with disabilities.

Although there were many difficulties in operating the market last year due to COVID-19, it is now re-opened as a place where people with disabilities and non-disabled people can communicate and run various programs.

The 'Gangdong Dream-drae Market', which serves as an office for employment for the disabled, is expected to significantly contribute to job creation for the disabled by selling coffee brewed by disabled baristas and operating internship programs for disabled barista trainees preparing for employment.

In addition, it is expected to promote sales of products produced by the disabled at the vocational rehabilitation facility by exhibiting and promoting products such as baking, cookies, organic soap, ocher salt, ceramics, and so on.

Gangdong-gu mayor Lee Jung-hun said, "It will not be the place only for enjoying a cup of coffee or tea, but it will be used as a place where people with disabilities and non-disabled people can cooperate together by operating various programs."
