Subject Gangdong-gu Takes Care of Obesity and Health of Children and Adolescents by Using Untact

Gangdong-gu(Head of District Office Lee Jung-hun) manages obesity and health of children and adolescents by utilizing untact forms to proactively cope with environments where children and adolescents are feared to lose physical activity and deteriorate health due to the prolonged Covid-19.
Gangdong-gu District recognized the severity of the obesity rate of children and adolescents (25.8% according to the 2019 Student Health Checkup Sample Statistics) and enacted related ordinance and actively is working to create an environment for the prevention of obesity and healthy growth of students in the jurisdiction.
In particular, specialized project of Gangdong-gu, ‘Moving Classroom, Healthy School’ is a healthy urban obesity prevention project in which community-school-experts cooperate to establish student health governance. The project, which started with three pilot elementary schools, has expanded to six elementary schools and one middle school this year, establishing an obesity management system for teenagers as well as children.

Last year, the district produced and distributed more than 200 video education materials that can be used for online classes. In addition, individual intensive care was conducted for obese children and their families to contribute to forming a desirable lifestyles.
This year, the district will especially open online communication channels not only for project participants but also for anyone to help them easily access information for preventing obesity and healthy growth of the children at home.
Lee Jung-hun, head of the district office, said, "Children and adolescent obesity has a very high transition rate of about 80 percent to adult obesity and causes various diseases. At this critical time when the foundation for the children's lifelong health is established, I hope you will actively utilize the online communication window of the health center to take care of your health."
