Subject Gangdong-gu relieves worries about after-school care for working couples.

Gangdong-gu opened the fourth branch of the ‘Our Neighborhood Kiwoom Center’, a facility where elementary school students can enjoy and safely be cared for after school. Children can receive care services as safe as school and as comfortable as home, such as homework guidance and play activities here.
Last year, Korea's birth rate hit a record low of 0.8 people, but there is still a lack of infrastructure to solve the low birthrate problem. In preparation, Gangdong-gu continues to make efforts to address the blind spot of primary care caused by changes in the parenting environment.
It is expanding the Public Child Care Center, a space where children can meet their peers and rest safely after school classes, relieve their parents' concerns, and experience various programs.
Starting with the 1st Center, which opened in 2019, the 2nd (Myeongil 2-dong) and 3rd (Kangil-dong) have been opened and operated. Especially, the fourth store, which opened in Seongnae1-dong, was provided with space through a free lease agreement with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) last year. The "Seodo Huville" residential facility (201, 88㎡), a rental house for newlyweds, has been remodeled into a child-friendly care space, and up to 20 children are available.
The "Our Neighborhood Kiwoom Center" is available to all elementary school students who need care regardless of their income level. Families in need of help can use 50,000 won per month for regular care and 2,500 won per day for temporary care. Children here can receive services such as homework guidance, play activities, cultural, arts and sports programs, and snacks. It is open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the semester and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the vacation.
Residents who want to use it can book online at http://icare.seoul.go.kr.
Jeong-hoon Lee, mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "As the demand for care, such as prolonged Corona 19, continues to increase, we will make efforts to create a caring environment where parents can leave their children with confidence." "We are planning to open additional stores 5 and 6 in ‘Our neighborhood Kiwoom Center’ this year, and we will establish a tight regional care system to create Gangdong-gu without any care gaps."
