Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu, Seoul, expressed his opposition to the reduction of the new GTX-D line to the Gimpo Janggi-Buchon Stadium section on the 29th. According to Gangdong-gu District, Lee said he was very sorry that the GTX-D route was announced to be built only in the Gimpo Long-Term to Bucheon Stadium at the "Second Metropolitan Transportation Master Plan" and "4th Metropolitan Transportation Plan" online public hearings organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. As the new GTX-D route, which was originally expected to lead directly from the west to Gangnam, has been reduced to the "Kimbu Line," even citizens of Geomdan and Gimpo oppose the plan for a wide-area express railway in the west, which is not connected to Gangnam. There is strong opposition from the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, as well as protesting in front of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport building. Gangdong-gu residents also expected the GTX-D route to be an alternative to address the growing population and growing wide-area traffic shortage caused by large-scale reconstruction, housing development, and business complex creation, but explained that they were disappointed to hear that it planned to be drastically reduced to the "Kimbu Line." The district emphasized that the Gangdong-gu transit line must be pushed for the distribution of demand between Sadang and Jamsil Station on Seoul Subway Line 2. In addition, he urged the government to establish a railway network plan from a long-term and macro perspective as the national railway network construction plan and the metropolitan transportation basic plan are long-term plans to establish railway projects for the next 10 to 20 years. "GTX is a 30-minute project to solve serious traffic problems in the Seoul metropolitan area," said Gangdong-gu District mayor Lee Jung hun. "We will make every effort to reflect Gangdong-gu's proposed route in the 4th National Rail Network Plan and 2nd Metropolitan Area Basic Plan." |
