Subject Gangdong-gu District selects a public offering for the project to create an eco-friendly smart energy city.

Gangdong-gu District (District mayor Lee Jung hun) announced on the 22nd that "the project to create an eco-friendly smart energy city through localization of green new deal technology" was selected at the 2021 Regional Energy New Industry Promotion Contest organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The project to support the revitalization of local energy new industries is a government-sponsored project to actively foster new energy industries that match regional characteristics, and will receive 25 percent of the project cost from the government.

Gangdong-gu District signed an agreement with Dongseo Power Co. in September last year to build an eco-friendly smart energy city such as supplying eco-friendly energy and improving energy efficiency, investigating a total of 102 business sites and developing new energy business models.

The Gangdong-gu Eco-Friendly Smart Energy City Project" was promoted by Gangdong-gu, Korea East-West Power Co., and Synergy, which is the largest among local governments in the country with 2.4 billion won each and 4.8 billion won remaining."

The project aims to establish a sustainable low-carbon green city by improving installation of renewable energy facilities (fuel cells, solar power) reduction of energy storage devices (power peaks), fine dust and greenhouse gas energy self-reliance.

In particular, the project will be the first in Korea to apply 1MW-class 4th generation high-molecular electrolyte fuel cell (PEMFC) to build an urban fuel cell that is safe for low-temperature operation and low-site use. It is planning to maximize energy efficiency by producing 8059MWh (2757 households) of electricity annually and supplying co-energized heat to regions.

2 million tons of greenhouse gas reduction and 1.7 billion won in annual profits are expected due to the reduction of energy costs using renewable energy generation and energy storage devices. Some of the profits from the power generation project will be issued to 13,000 socially vulnerable people in Gangdong-gu.

In addition, the system will continue to carry out follow-up management tasks during the project period, including real-time monitoring and support for optimizing energy use, at the MSP Center, a comprehensive energy management center located in Dongseo Power Plant headquarters.

"We hope this project will serve as the foundation for Gangdong-gu to move toward an eco-friendly smart energy city," said Lee Jung hun, head of Gangdong-gu Office. "We will continue to create a low-carbon energy independence ecosystem, lead the Green New Deal, and create Green City Gangdong."
