Subject Gangdong-gu, School Solar Power Project 'First Step'

Gangdong-gu and Seoul Energy Corporation are in earnest promoting the school solar power generation project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The first project to be carried out for Baejae High School in Gangdong-gu is attracting attention as the first school solar power project.

Gangdong-gu and Seoul Energy Corporation signed a business agreement with Baejae High School on the 5th at Gangdong-gu Office for a solar power generation project utilizing the school site. This is the first case to start Solar power generation in High school. The school solar power generation project is to install about 500Kw solar power generation facilities on the main building of the Baejae High School. The project will use useless space for power generating, the roof of the auditorium, and the parking lot. And it will help student to learn how to make electric power and how to save energy in their life.

In particular, the KTO is planning to gradually expand the school solar power supply project to Gangdong-gu Office and private high schools located in Gangdong-gu. They are going to try finding new High school as the other model for next business.

This is to initiate a GHG reduction project by expanding the supply of new and renewable energy as part of the “2022 Solar City, Seoul” and the “2050 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan”.

Lee Jung hun, District Mayor of Gangdong-gu Office, said, “We are very proud to sign such a business agreement at the beginning of the Gangdong-type Green New Deal. This business agreement will be an important opportunity for the start of the school solar power generation project for schools in the city.”

In addition, Principal Baejae High School, Ko Jin-young, said, "I hope this project will be a good starting point for the school solar power generation business in Gangdong-gu." Meanwhile, Gangdong-gu is planning to further expand the school solar power supply business, starting with the distribution center.
